Description
Description
From the vantage point of the Peel Building, Salford unfolds in layers of dark ink and cool blue tones in this striking framed original artwork by Anthony McCarthy. Rooftops, chimneys, and the dense urban fabric of the city crowd the composition, rendered with the expressive, gestural mark-making that defines McCarthy's distinctive style. This is Salford observed with the same unflinching yet affectionate eye that LS Lowry brought to his own explorations of the industrial North.
The connection to place is palpable throughout the work. The Peel Building, home to the University of Salford, has long been significant in the area's artistic history. LS Lowry himself attended life drawing classes at the Royal Technical College on the edge of Peel Park, and his views from the windows of the college became some of his most celebrated works. McCarthy's interpretation continues that tradition of looking outward, taking in the city from above and finding beauty in its complexity.
As an art print shop dedicated to celebrating Northern art and heritage, Lowry Shop is proud to offer this piece as part of its fine art for sale collection. Presented in a black frame with a clean white mount, this artwork is ready to hang straight from the box.
