Painted in 1930, Coming from the Mill was described by LS Lowry as his ‘most characteristic mill scene’. Rather than representing one precise location, the painting grew from the artist’s observation of workers leaving the Acme Company’s mill after LS Lowry missed a train at Pendlebury station.
