Description: Lowry created works in his own unique, recognisable style and tried to avoid sentiment in his pictures entirely. He produced a number of works based on level crossings after visits to Burton-on-Trent. The train here was modelled on a toy train belonging to the son of one of Lowry’s friends. Its dark mass projects forward against the white background.
