Description: Lowry painted in watercolour only rarely, complaining that ‘…they don’t really suit me [and] dry too quickly. I like a medium you can work into, over a period of time.’ Most of his watercolours date from the 1950s when he borrowed a friend’s watercolour set. Here, he instinctively dots reds, blacks, and whites across the paper in the same way that he does in his oil paintings to help bring his composition together.
